Take a Hike Beanie

The Take a Hike Beanie is the perfect accessory for a weekend of hiking, sitting around a campfire and relaxing in a cabin. Complete with a leather tag, this faux knit hat is modern, rustic and just what you need this season.  

 

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 28” circumference x 9.25” length

Gauge: 14 sts and 10 rows = 4” [10 cm] in hdc

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca (90% Acrylic, 10% Alpaca; 207 yards [190 meters]/100 grams): 158 Golden Rod (1 skein)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, sewing needle and thread, small scrap of leather (1” x 2”), leather punch

Special Stitches

Camel Half Double Crochet (chdc)

Yo, insert hook into the 3rd lp (this is directly below the top lp), yo, pull back through st, yo, pull through all 3 lps.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in rows and seamed together.

The ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a st.

Pattern

Ch 37

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in every ch across, ch 1, turn. (36 sts)

Row 2: Hdc in first 26 sts, chdc in the last 10 sts, ch 1, turn. (36 sts)

Row 3: Hdc in first 10 sts, hdc in the last 26 sts, ch 1, turn. (36 sts)

Rows 455: Rep Rows 2-3.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Finishing

Seam the two sides together to form a tube and cinch the top closed.

Weave in loose ends.

Punch 4 holes on the shortest sides of the leather. Fold it over the brim so half is on the outside and half is on the inside.

Sew the tag on.

    I think it’s hdc in blo for the part that’s not the camel stitch. The turned camel stitch will just be hdc…??? I’m working on one now…

    I may be confused but, It appears this pattern is written with a few errors in it. The “ribbing” should possibly have a “back look only” stitch and, the other special stitch, CHDC is only used a few times. I love the picture of the finished one though.
