Need for Tweed Cowl

This is quite the cozy cowl full of great texture. It can be worn in many different ways, thanks to the easily adjustable buttons. Worked flat with a woven-look stitch, this project is great for beginners too.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Approximately 10½” wide x 30” long

Gauge: 14 sts and 12 rows = 4” [10 cm] in post stitch pattern

Materials

Medium Weight YarnYarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Tweed (80% Peruvian Highland Wool, 20% Donegal Tweed; 110 yards [101 meters]/50 grams): 25455 Rabbit Heather (Color A), 2 balls; 25456 Dill Heather (Color B), 1 ball; 25450 Thirst Heather (Color C), 2 balls.

Hook: US size J/10 (6 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; three 1” buttons

Abbreviations

ch – chain

dc – double crochet

fpdc – front post double crochet

bpdc – back post double crochet

st – stitch

tch – turning chain

Pattern Notes

Button cowl is worked flat. Buttons are sewed on last and spaces in between posts serve as button holes. Stitch pattern multiple can be worked over any even number.

Color Sequence (for pattern repeat)

Color A – 4 rows

Color B – 2 rows

Color C – 4 rows

With Color A, ch 40.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from the hook and in each ch across.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn, work *fpdc around first st, bpdc around next st; rep from * across, dc in top ch of the tch.

Row 3: Ch 3, turn, work *bpdc around first st, fpdc around next st; rep from * across, dc in top ch of the tch.

Rep Rows 2-3 until Cowl meas approximately 30” long following Color Sequence.

Finishing

Sew three buttons evenly spaced apart along edge where last row was worked.

Weave in any ends and block if desired.
