Wide Horizon Boatneck Tee

This striking top is an oversized, drapey boatneck tee that boasts a playful stripe pattern, decorative outside seams and slit shoulder detail that makes this tee a perfect garment for a breezy summer day. The simple construction makes it suitable for crocheters of all levels, and provides a versatile and easy to wear garment.

Materials

Yarn: Drops Cotton Light (50% cotton, 65% polyester; 115 yards [105 meters]/50 grams):  #14 Turquoise (C1, 3 (4, 4, 4, 5) balls), #02 White (C2, 4 (4, 5, 5, 5) balls), #08 Ice Blue (C3, 3 (4, 4, 4, 5) balls)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook
Notions: Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Fhdc: Foundation half double crochet
hdc fl: Half double crochet through the front loop

Special Stitches

Foundation half double crochet: make a slip knot and place onto hook, ch 3, yo and insert hook into both lps of the third st from hook, yo and draw through the first ch on hook, yo and ch 1, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook, *yo, insert hook in ch part of previous st, yo and draw through the first ch on hook, yo and ch 1, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook; rep from *.

Pattern Notes

This tee is worked sideways in two identical panels. The tee is started using a hdc foundation row, then the colored bands are worked in hdc fl pattern. Each panel is finished with a simple sc edging around, forming the neck and hem finishing. The panels are then slip stitched together at the sides and shoulders.
A turning chain of 2 ch is used throughout.
The turning chain is not counted as a stitch.

Pattern

With C1 yarn, make 101 (105, 108, 110, 112) fhdc.
Row 1: Ch 2, turn, hdc fl to end.
Rep this row another 1 (4, 2, 5, 3) times.
Break yarn.

C2 Stripe Section

Row 1: Attach C2, ch 2, turn, hdc fl to end.
Rep this row another 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) times.
Break yarn. 

C3 Stripe Section

Next row: Attach C3, ch 2, turn, hdc fl to end.
Rep this row another 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) times.
Break yarn.

C1 Stripe Section

Next row: Attach C1, ch 2, turn, hdc fl to end.
Rep this row another 4 (4, 5, 5, 6) times.
Break yarn.
Rep the 3 stripe sections another 2 times, for a total of 9 stripes.
Then rep the C2 stripe section once more.
Break yarn.
Next row: Attach C3, ch 2, turn, hdc fl to end.
Rep this row another 2 (5, 3, 6, 4) times.
With RS facing attach C2 yarn at the bottom edge, ch 1, sc around with 3 sc in each corner and join with a slst.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat for second panel.

Blocking

Block each rectangle with the stripes aligned vertically to the following dimensions:
Width: 19.25 (21.25, 23.25, 25.25, 27.25)” [49 (54, 59.25, 64.25, 69.5) cm]
Length: 23 (24, 24.75, 25.25, 25.5)” [58.75 (61, 62.75, 64, 65) cm]

Finishing

With wrong sides together and the stripes aligned vertically, seam using slip stitch 16 (16.5, 16.75, 16.75, 16.75)” [40.5 (42, 42.5, 42.5, 42.5) cm] from bottom hem, up the sides. Leave remaining fabric unseamed for armhole.
Next, slip stitch the top of each rectangle together according to schematic, forming the shoulders.
Weave in all remaining ends and enjoy.
