Vines & Flowers Wrap

This wrap combines lattice-work, traveling vines, and a graceful flowered edging for the perfect summer night wrap.

Gauge: 7 SR = 4¼” [11 cm] and 14 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in Lace Patt, after wet blocking.
5 rnds = 1¾” [4.5 cm] in Border Patt.

Materials

Yarn:

Lace Weight Yarn Quince & Co. Piper (50% Texas super kid mohair, 50% Texas superfine merino; 305 yards [279 meters]/50 grams): #605 San Angelo, 2 (4) hanks

Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; blocking wires and T-pins (optional, but recommended)

Set-up Row (WS): Sc into the second ch from hook, *ch 5, sk 3 ch, sc into next ch; rep from * to end, turn.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), sc into first ch-5 sp, *ch 5, sc into next ch-5 sp; rep from * to last sc, ch 2, dc into last sc, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc into dc, *ch 3, sc into next ch-5 sp; rep from * to end, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), * 3dc into next ch-3 sp; rep from * to last sc, dc into last sc, turn.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), work 6 dc into first ch-3 sp, (dc 3 into next ch-3 sp) to last ch-3 sp, work 6 dc into the last ch-3 sp, ch 1, rotate body 90º clockwise and cont working with RS facing along the selvedge edge as follows: work 6 dc into the side of the first dc, (dc 3 into the side of the next dc) to the last dc, work 6 dc into the side of the last dc, ch 1, rotate body 90º clockwise and cont working along the foundation ch as follows: dc 6 into the first ch-3 sp, (dc 3 into next ch-3 sp) to last ch-3 sp, work 6 dc into last ch-3 sp, ch 1, rotate body 90º clockwise and cont working along the selvedge edge as follows: dc 6 into the first ch-3 tch, (dc 3 into the next ch-3 tch) to the last ch-3 tch, work 5 dc into the last ch-3 tch, sl st into the 3rd ch of tch to join. Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc 4 into next ch-4 sp; rep from * around, sl st into first sc to join.

Rnd 4: (Sl st, ch 1, sc) into next sc, ch 4, sk 3 sc, *sc into next sc, ch 4, sk 3 sc; rep from * around, sl st into first sc to join. Do not turn.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc 4 into next ch-4 sp, sc 2 into next ch-4 sp, ch 4, turn so WS is facing, sk 3 sc and sl st into the next sc, ch 1, turn so RS is facing, (sc, ch 3) into the ch-4 sp just made 3 times, then sc into the same ch-4 sp once more, sc 2 into the ch-4 sp from rnd 4; rep from * around, sl st into the first sc to join. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Block piece by soaking in cool water for about 15–20 minutes, gently squeeze out excess liquid (do not twist). Roll shawl in a towel and squeeze to remove excess liquid. Thread blocking wires through the center ch-3 sp of each flower on Rnd 5 of the border and pin to measurements. Allow to air-dry completely before removing pins and wires.
