Party Prep Apron

Get your summer party off to a great start with this apron! It’s all about the ruffles and the cute little details to get this season off on the right start.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Medium 20” w x 18” h (see notes on how to adjust)

Gauge: 4 sts and 2 rows = 1” square in dc

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart Soft (100% Acrylic; 256 yards [234 meters]/141 grams): #2515 Turquoise (Color A) (1 skein), #4600 White (Color C) (1 skein), #4420 Guacamole (Color D) (1 skein)

Medium Weight Yarn Premier Deborah Norville Everyday Multis (100% Anti-Pilling Acrylic; 180 yards [165 meters]/100 grams): #2034 Happy Baby (Color B) (1 skein)

Hook: US size K/10.5 (6.5 mm)

Notions: Removable markers (2), tapestry needle, sewing needle, matching thread, one large button

Pattern Notes

The strap is worked first and fastened off. The body is made onto the center of the strap. To increase or decrease, do so by the count of 20, adding 10 to each side of the body. To change colors, finish all but last pull through on current stitch, drop current color, pick up next and finish stitch

Using Color A, ch 151.

Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook and in each ch across. (150 sts)

Row 2: Turn, sc2tog twice, sc in each st to last 4 sts, sc2tog twice. (146 sts)

Row 3: Turn, sc2tog, sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog. (144 sts)

Row 4: Turn, sc2tog, sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog. (142 sts)

Row 5: Turn, sc2tog, sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog. (140 sts)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Body

Count 52 sts in on each side, mark with stitch markers.

Row 1: With WS facing, join Color A at first stitch marker, sc in each st to next stitch marker. (36 sts)

Rows 2-6: Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (36 sts)

Row 7: Join Color B, fasten off Color A. Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (36 sts)

Row 8: Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch.

Row 9: Join Color C, fasten off Color B. Turn, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (36 sts)

Place stitch marker at each end of Row 9.

Rows 10-25: Turn, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (36 sts)

Row 26: Turn, ch1, sc in first st, dc in each st to last stitch, sc in last stitch (36 sts).

Row 27: Join Color D, fasten off Color C. Turn, ch 2, working in blo, dc in each stitch.

Rows 28-31: Turn, ch 2, dc in each stitch.

Row 32: Turn, ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dc in each st to last 3 stitches, hdc in next, sc in last 2 stitches. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Ruffle Edging

Lay apron with front side up with ties at top. Join Color B at stitch marker on Row 9 on the left. Use the ends of rows as stitches, ch 2, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st; repeat from * around the body of apron. On the bottom, use the exposed front loop from Row 27 and work up the opposite side.  To finish, ch 2, sl st to the last stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Finishing

Using Color B, ch 23.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in each ch across. (22 sts)

Rows 2-23: Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Use yarn needle and sew onto bottom left corner of apron.

Flower

Back

Using Color C, ch 4, sl st to the first chain to join.

Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc in ring, do not join. (10 sts)

Round 2: *Sl st in next stitch, ch 1, dc 1, ch 1, sl st in same stitch; repeat from * in each stitch. (10 petals)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Front

Using Color B, ch 4, sl st to the first chain to join.

Round 1: Ch 1, work 10 sc in ring, do not join. (10 sts)

Round 2: *Sl st in next stitch, ch 1, dc 1, ch 1, sl st in same stitch; repeat from * in each stitch. (8 petals)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Stack the flower and sew onto apron with yarn needle. Use sewing needle and thread and sew button onto center of flower to finish.
