Winter Spruce Tassel Hat

Notions: Removable markers, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Front Post Back Post Double Crochet Together (FPtogBP): Yo, insert hook into first indicated stitch as if working a Front Post, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, insert hook into next indicated stitch as if working a Back Post, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through all 3 loops n hook.

Pattern Notes

Hat is worked in the round, top down, joining each round without turning.

Hat is worked with Wrong side facing.

Ear Flaps are worked flat, directly on hat.

Chain 1 does not count as a stitch.

Chain 3 counts as a Double Crochet (dc) stitch.

Second Ear Flap

From last stitch of Row 1 of First Ear Flap skip 27 sts, join to next st (this will be a Back post stitch)

Rep Rows 1-6 of First Ear Flap

Pom Pom

Using CC create a 3 3/8” (85 mm) Pom Pom. Attach to top of hat.

Tassels

Using CC create 6 tassels from bundles of twenty-four 10” long + one 16” long yarn strands. Leave the extra 6” of long strand hanging below tassel.

Using the long tail left on Ear Flap join one tassel. Join next 2 tassels below using the long strand of tassel above to tie to tassel below, creating a cascade of tassels. Repeat on other Ear Flap.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

  • I would love to make this hat, however I am allergic to any type of wool and must use a polyester type of yarn. What would be considered as the weight of the yarn so I can select what I can use ad make it. Thank you
