Gauge: 7 Cdc (14 sts) and 7 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern 

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Patons Classic Wool Worsted (100% wool; 210 yards [192 meters]/100 grams): #77404 Orchid (CA, 1 ball), #77308 Wisteria (CB, 1 ball)

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook

Notions: Tapestry needle, (3) 0.75” sew through or shank buttons, locking stitch marker

Abbreviations

Crossed Double Crochet (Cdc): Skip st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st. 

Pattern

Cowl

With CA, ch 81.
Row 1: Turn, sk 3 ch (counts as first dc), Cdc across to last st, dc. (78 sts)
Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as dc, here and throughout), Cdc across to last st, dc.
Rows 3-10: Rep Row 2 or until cowl measures approximately 5.5” wide. Do not fasten off. 

Button Band

Turn to work along short edge.
Row 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in side st of each row across. (20 sts)
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across.
Rows 3-6: Rep Row 2. Do not fasten off.
Place marker in loop on hook to hold in place. Remove hook.
Evenly position buttons along button band, being sure each button aligns with the buttonhole/space between first dc and first Cdc on opposite short edge. With tapestry needle and yarn, sew buttons in place. 

Border

Remove marker and return hook to loop.
Turn to work along long edge, ch 1, sc in side st of next 6 rows of button band, and in each st across row, turn to work along short edge, 4 sc in side st of first row, 2 sc in side st of each row across to last row, 4 sc in side st of last row, turn to work along long edge, sc in unworked side of foundation ch across, sc in side st of next 6 rows of button band, join with sl st to next st. Fasten off. 

Hearts (Make Five)

With CB, ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 2, (3 tr, 3 dc, tr, ch 1, tr, 3 dc, 3 tr, hdc) in ring. Do not join.
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in next 8 sts, 3 sc in ch-1 sp, sc in next 7 sts, sl st to ch-2 sp. Fasten off, leaving approximately 12” yarn tail for joining. 

Assembly

Position Hearts evenly across cowl. With RS facing (button side), using long yarn tail and tapestry needle, sew Hearts on cowl. 

Finishing

Weave in ends. Spray block if needed.
