Zelie Mom & Daughter Flower Puff Bags

Zelie is a vintage-inspired bag pattern that is perfect for moms and daughters alike, so it’s time to twin with your little one! Using a variety of colors to create the puff flowers, the bag is completed with a sleek metal purse clasp and chain.

Time: 16-18 (L) and 7-10 (S) hours pattern(s).

Skill Level: Easy

Size: L (S); Each motif measures 2” (4 cm) diameter. See figure 1 for final measures.

Gauge: See motif size.

Fine weight yarnYarn: Scheepjes Catona (100% Mercerized Cotton; 137yards [125 meters]/50 grams colors: 505 (MC, 3 balls), 386 (CC1, 1 ball), 514 (CC2, 1 ball), 252 (CC3, 1 ball), 226 (CC4, 1 ball).

Hook: US size E-4 (3.5 mm).

Notions: Tapestry needle (size smaller than the metallic bag holes). Metallic bag fasteners (12” x 3.5” (L), 9” x 2” (S)), Metallic chains (2 x 38” (L); 1 x 24” (S)). Linen flax waxed or some other heavy cotton thread (matching color with MC).

Pattern Notes

The construction starts making 75 (28) flower, and 4 (4) square motifs that are then distributed and joined according to the chart. The upper edge is finished by a combination of sc, hdc and dcs to adjust to the mouthpiece of the metallic bag fastener.

I recommend using a Linen flax/heavy cotton thread to join both the motifs among themselves and to the metallic bag. Assure the needle pass through the metallic bag holes easily.

The table below indicates the number of motifs in each CC by size.
