Shimmer and Shine Necklace

Using simple crochet stitches and luxurious metallic yarn, create a wrap for a beautiful cabochon that hangs from a delicate necklace. This necklace makes a great statement piece for a fancy night out.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 1¾” L x 1½” W = pendants; 20” L – necklace length

Gauge: Gauge not necessary for this project, 8 sc = 1” (with larger hook)

Materials

Yarn:

Lace Weight Yarn Oso Blanco Scoubidu (73% nylon, 27% polyester; 218 yards [199 meters]/20 grams): #222 Gold (1 ball)

Hook: US size J/10 (6.0 mm) hook and 1.25 mm steel crochet hook

Notions: Large cabochon (28 mm x 21 mm), necklace clasp, jump ring (6mm), embroidery needle, jewelry glue

Special Stitches

2 tr CL: Ch 5, [YO 2 times, insert hook into 4th ch from hook, YO, draw up a lp, (YO, pull through 2 lps on hook) 2 times], YO, pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Rnd 1 of Pendant should be the same size as the back of your stone. Test fit and size on Pendant as you work. Remember that yarn has a good amount of give to it.

Rnd 1: With larger hook in an adjustable ring, work (ch 8, tr, ch 1, 7 tr, ch 1, tr, ch 1, tr, ch 3, sl st to 5th ch of starting ch-8).
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st and ch around.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, working in the back loop only, hdc in each st around.
Rnd 4: Switch to smaller hook, sc in each st around, working through both loops.
Fasten off.

Edging for Pendant

Rnd 1: With larger hook, join with sl st in top unused loop of Rnd 3. Ch 2, (hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 4 times, hdc in last 4 sts, join with sl st to top of first hdc. (24 hdc)
Rnd 2:  Ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sl st in next st, (ch 5, sk next st, sl st in next st) 3 times, ch 2, sk next st, (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc) in sp bet skipped st and next st, sk next st, ch 2, sl st in next st, (ch 5, sk next st, sl st in next st) 3 times, ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sl st in next st.
Rnd 3:  Work (5 sc in next ch-5 sp, sl st in next sl st) 4 times, sc in next ch-2 sp, sl st in next dc, (2 sc in next ch -2 sp, sl st in next dc) 2 times, sc in next ch-2 sp, (sl st in next sl st, 5 sc in next ch-5 sp) 4 times, sl st in first st.
Fasten off leaving long tail for assembly.

Length

Row 1: With larger hook, (ch 5, 2 tr CL in 4th ch from hook) 18 times, ch 3, (ch 5, 2 tr CL in 4th ch from hook) 18 times.
Row 2: Sl st in top of last cluster st, *ch 7, sl st in next ch (between current and next CL) across to center ch-3 sp, sl st in each of next 3 chs, ch 7, sl st in next ch (between current and next CL) across to end.*, Now working on other side of row, rep from * to *.
Rnd 3: Sl st in each ch and sl st around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Finishing

Steam block necklace length and only the outer edge of the pendant pulling apart all spaces so even and open. Let dry completely.
Using yarn tails and embroidery needle, sew pendant to center of necklace length (use photo as a guide).
Insert stone into pendant and glue into place.
Sew on jump ring and clasp to length ends.
