Pattern Notes

This granny square tank is worked top down in the round from the single crochet band. Band should fit snugly above bust. 4 corners are worked evenly around from the band ‘Granny Square style’ so the top flares dramatically.

Turn after each rnd.

Color order – A, [B, C, D, E, D, C, B, A] twice, 4 Rnds A, [B, C, D, E, D, C, B, A].

If more garment length is required, add more rounds in the 4 Rnd color A section (NOTE: adding more rnds for length may require an additional skein of yarns B, C, & D color for size 41.5, and an additional skein of color B for size 45.75).

Pattern

Band

Using color A, Fsc 80 (96, 112, 128, 144, 160, 176), join with sl st to first Fsc, being careful not to twist.

Following color order in Pattern Notes, continue working in rnds as established, working Csh in each corner ch-1 sp and Sh in every regular ch-1 sp to end of color order. 29 Granny Square Rnds. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Block granny square only – omit blocking sc band.

Braided Straps

Cut 6 x 1yd lengths of each color. Divide into groups of 3.

With RS facing, use lockable stitch markers to mark top row of single crochet corresponding with center of each Granny Square corner. Center back is where rnds joined.

Lay each 3-strand grouping so color order works from A-E with A laying closest to Center Front.

With RS Front facing, working on Right Front Strap, starting from color E, insert hook 2 sts to left of stitch marker, use hook to pull through from WS to RS each 3-strand group in order leaving approx 4” tails down front of band. Gather these 4” tails together with ends level and tie gently into an overhand knot. Turn tank so that you can now braid the remaining lengths of yarn.

Follow braiding chart for 5-strand braid. Continue braiding to required strap length ending with colors in same order as beginning.

Hook each color through top rnd of sc at corresponding corner position on back of tank being careful not to twist strap, knot as on front.

Repeat for other strap.

Trim each strap end (tassel) to 4” or desired length.
