Magnolia Scalloped Cardigan

Body Edging

Join yarn to beg-ch edge of Body with RS facing. When working Rnd 1, place 1 sc in each ch or st from Body and 6 sc for every 5 rows along vertical edges.

Rnd 1: Placing first sc in corner, sc evenly along lower edge of Body, Right Front, Right Sleeve, Back Neck, Left Sleeve, Left Front, join with sl st to beg sc.

Note: Stitch count must be a multiple of 6 sts. Adjust if necessary, on Rnd 1 or Rnd 2 as needed.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 6 more dc in same sc, sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc, sk next 2 sc, *7 dc in next sc, sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc, sk next 2 sc; rep from * to end, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 3: * Ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next dc, hdc in next 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 1, sk next dc, Spike sc in sc from Rnd 1; rep from * to end.

Fasten off.

    Still waiting for a reply to Deborah’s question, above, regarding substitution of wool for cotton.

      Hi Elizabeth, I would suggest making a gauge swatch in the wool yarn you are considering using, and blocking it as well to see if it holds its shape.
      A wool blend might be better here, to make sure that the yarn works well overall for a garment. For instance, instead of Bamboo Pop, you could try Wool Pop:

  • Hello! This is a gorgeous cardigan. I’d like to make it as a winter sweater; do you think that wool would work here, or is the cotton necessary to retain its shape? Any warm yarn suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
