Foundation is worked in short stacked rows to create a scalloped edge that is echoed by the Tilted Shells on the finishing edge.
The stitch pattern that creates the look of oval motifs (the stones) uses 3 rows to get one row of stones. Every third row there is a single crochet stitch that is worked into the space between the shells of the first row in the set of 3 rows to create the stones.
