The Cozy Cranberry Mint C2C Scarf design was born out of an appreciation for corner-to-corner crochet techniques. The aim was to create a charming checkered scarf that could be crafted with both speed and a pleasing tactile quality. This pattern is characterized by its straightforwardness and accessibility; once the initial square is completed, the subsequent steps flow seamlessly in a repetitive manner.

Yarn: Red Heart Comfort Yarn (100% acrylic, 5oz / 141g = 236yds / 215m) Cardinal Red (MC 1 ball) and Mint Green (CC1 1 ball)
Hook: US 7/4.5 mm hook
Notions: Scissors and tapestry needle
Pattern Notes
You will need 32 Cardinal red squares and 31 Mint green squares. The first row of the scarf consists of two red squares and one green square (with the green square occupying the middle between the two red squares). Alternate the colors in each row, thereby making a checkerboard pattern.
Weave in loose ends at the completion of each square and as each row is put together. Chain 3 at the beginning of the row counts as the first double crochet.
Square Pattern
Ch 6
Row 1: Dc in fourth ch from hook and in next 2 chs. (1 block made)
Row 2: Ch 6, dc in fourth ch from hook and in next 2 chs, turn Row 1 block up and sl st in beg ch-3 sp of first block, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp of Row 1 block. (2 blocks made)
Row 3: Turn, ch 6, dc in fourth ch from hook and in next 2 chs, *[sl st, ch 3, 3 dc] in ch-3 sp of next block on prev row; rep from * across all blocks. (3 blocks made)
Row 4: Repeat Row 3. (4 blocks made)
Decreasing Row: Turn, ch 1, sl st across next 3 sts, sl st in ch-3 sp, *(ch 3, 3 dc) in same ch-3 sp, sl st in ch-3 sp of next block; rep from * to last block but do not work a block on top of last block from previous row. (decrease by 1 block)
Repeat Decreasing Row until you have worked only 1 block to finish square. Fasten off.
Finishing
To put the squares together, put the right sides facing and single crochet along the back edge of the wrong side with Cardinal red yarn.
For fringe, cut lengths of yarn approximately 13 inches long, 2 red yarns and 1 green yarn length (to make up each fringe). Fold the 3 pieces of yarn in half and at the bottom edge of the scarf use your crochet hook to pull up the folded part of the 3 yarns together. Pull the lengths of yarn up through the folded yarn, and tighten. Continue to place fringe along both bottom edges.
