This beginner friendly crochet pattern is made with Lion Brand Mandala yarn, which is perfect for creating an interesting chevron because you don’t have to cut the yarn or weave in many ends. Better yet, the yarn is tripled to create quicker color changes for an absolutely stunning project. Showcase the entire color range of one yarn cake on each side of your crochet pillow.

Row 3: Ch 2, tr in same st, *(2 dc, 2 hdc, sc, sl st, sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr); rep from * to end, turn (This creates 5 peaks and 4 valleys). Updated 1/6/2021

Where are instructions on how to do this? “The pillow is crocheted with three strands of yarn using a chaining technique to pull the yarn from the cake.”
What technique is this and where do we find it? I’ve been crocheting for decades and never heard of this.
Hello Beth! We have a photo tutorial for this technique here: https://www.ilikecrochet.com/magazine/crochet-articles-and-interviews/crocheting-three-strands-of-yarn/

Is there an error in the instructions where you are making first chevron? It says tr, 2 dc, 1 sc, then sl st. Then it says 1 sc, 2 dc, 2 hdc, and 1 tr. Shouldn’t it say sl st, 1 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, and 1tc?

Hello! Yes, the triple-strand technique should be used to crochet the first row using three strands for the foundation hdc or the alternative chain and hdc beginning for row 1.
Great eye, Judy! You are right that there was a typo in the pattern. After you have chained two and hdc in each stitch across to make 49 hdc for row 2, turn, and row 3 should start with a chain two, a tr in the stitch directly below the chain, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sl st, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, tr and then continue the repeated section again, i.e., the sequence shown in parenthesis between the * symbol, to the end. Best of luck and thank you for writing in about the correction needed!
Do you use 3 strands for the first row if you start with a chain stitch?
