Ch 2 at beg of rows or rnds counts as 1 hdc.

Wind 15 yards of each color into a yarn butterfly to use as the yarn source (bobbin). Make additional yarn butterflies as work progresses or if additional colors are needed in a row.

Drop unused yarn after a color change to WS. The dropped yarns can be carried along WS of work until needed in the same or adjacent row(s) or can be cut and woven on WS as work progresses.

Leave a beginning 4” tail when adding a new color.

Pattern’s first block begins on WS at lower right-side bottom edge of chart. Pattern is worked diagonally throughout. All odd rows are worked diagonally downward ending at the bottom edge of the basket. All even rows beg at the bottom edge and are worked diagonally upward.

Basket height is completed after Row 7 and remaining Rows 8-46 progress horizontally to left side edge forming basket circumference.

Assembly

  1. With bases WS together, working through both layers, with smaller hook and A, hdc join in any st, hdc in each st around inserting plastic canvas circles between layers before completing stitching. Fasten off. (Note: Base plastic circles are not removable.)
  2. With RS of basket facing, place WS of basket bottom edge and base outer edge together, with larger hook and A, sl st join in any st of both layers, sl st in next st and in each st around, join to beg sl st. Fasten off.
  3. From 1 sheet of plastic canvas, cut 2 large rectangles each 38 holes H x 150 L. From 2nd sheet, cut 2 small rectangles: 1 – 38 holes H x 58 holes L and 1 – 38 holes H x 54 holes L. Whip stitch short ends of 1 large and 1 small rectangle together to form a ring. Rep to create 2nd layer. (Note: 1 ring will be slightly smaller in circumference.)
  4. With Basket on a flat surface, lift Lining up, insert larger plastic canvas (outer) ring inside Basket, smoothing along WS of Basket sides. Insert smaller (inner) ring inside basket against larger ring.
  5. Fold Lining inside Basket over inner ring, having unworked lps of Rnd 2 at top edge of Basket. (Note: Lining is not sewn in place to facilitate easy removal. If desired, Lining can be sewn into position.)
  6. With Basket top edge RS facing, using larger hook and A, sl st join into unworked loop of Lining Rnd 2, sl st in each st around. Fasten off.
