Spring Delight Beanie Crochet Pattern

Size: 20” in circumference.  One size fits most adults 

Gauge: Gauge is not critical 

Materials

Light weight yarnYarn: Caron Simply Soft Light (100% acrylic; 315 yards [288 meters]/170 grams): #0012 Bubble Gum (1 skein)
Hook: Use a size F-5 (3.75mm) hook for the body of the hat and a size E-4 (3.5mm) hook for the brim.
Notions: Yarn needle

Pattern Notes

Larger hook is used for brim and smaller hook is used for body of hat.
Brim and body of hat are worked separately and then sewn together.

Pattern

Brim

With larger hook, ch 22.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (21 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO of first sc and in each sc across, turn. (21 sc)
Repeat row 2 until piece measures 20”.  Fasten off, leaving length of yarn at least 10” long.
Using yarn needle, sew last row and 1st row together form tube.

Body

With smaller hook, ch 97.
Row 1: Sc in 9th ch from hook, *ch 4, skip next 3 chs, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 5, *sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 4; repeat from * across, ending with sc in last ch-3 sp, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch turning ch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 5, sc in first ch-4 sp, *ch 4, sc in next ch-4 sp; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 5, *sc in next ch-4 sp, ch 4; repeat from * across, ending with sc in last ch-4 sp, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch turning ch, turn.
Rows 5-19: Repeat rows 3 and 4, ending with row 3. Do not fasten off.
Row 20: Ch 4, *sc in next ch-4 sp, ch 3; repeat from * across, ending with sc in last ch-4 sp, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch turning ch, turn.
Row 21: Ch 4, sc in first ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 22: Ch 4, *sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3; repeat from * across, ending with sc in last ch-3 sp, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch turning ch, turn.
Row 23: Ch 4, sc in first ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp; repeat from * across.  Fasten off, leaving at least 18” length of yarn.

Finishing

Using 18” of remaining length of yarn, sew side edges together for back seam of hat.
Using yarn needle, sew band to lower edge of beanie.
Thread a 12″ length of yarn on needle. Pinch center front and center back of crown together and sew through both layers. Pinch side edges to the same center point and sew through all layers so top of hat is in a star formation. Continue to pinch opposite edges and sew them together until top of hat is completely closed. Fasten off.
Weave beginning tail through ends of rows, pull tightly and secure end. Weave in ends.
