Ribbed band of hat is worked first as a long strip, folded in half and then sc together.

The back bar of hdc is the loop that runs horizontally underneath the back loop of the completed stitch.

Pattern

Ribbed Band

With smaller hook, ch 22
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 20 hdc.

Row 2: Ch 2, working in back bar of each hdc, hdc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2, working in back loop of each hdc across, hdc in each st across, turn.

Rows 4-55: Rep Rows 2-3, 26 times.
Do not fasten off.

Fold band in half lengthwise with RS facing each other (on inside). Match short ends up and join with sc in each row across working in loop of each st from Row 1 (on 1 end) and working in back bar of hdc (on Row 55).

Turn so RS is facing out. Fold in half so long sides line up. Pin in place so ends of Rows line up,

ch 1, join long sides together with (2 sc in end of next Row, sc in end of next Row) around – 84 sc.

Tip: When working 2 sc in end of Row, work along post of st so 2 scs slightly spread out.

Do not join with a sl st to first sc. Work in a spiral and use a stitch marker to mark beg of each rnd.
