Two unique stitches make up this lightweight cowl – the star stitch and sideways puff stitch. This Lotus yarn shows the detail of each stitch well and gives the cowl great drape.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Size: 6.5” wide x approx. 30” long
Gauge: 10 star sts = 4”; 7 sideways puff sts = 4”
Gauge is not necessary for this project.

Pattern Notes
Pattern is worked in rows which are then joined to form cowl shape.
Several “WS” of rows are actually intended for the Right Side of cowl.
The edging is added last.
The color B sections create a slight increase so there is better drape around the neck and therefore, the bottom edge of the cowl will be longer than the top edge.
Pattern
With A, ch 33.
Row 1 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (31 sc)
Row 2 (RS): Beg Star Stitch, work Star Stitch across to last st, hdc in last st, turn.
Row 3 (WS): Ch 2 (counts as hdc), 2 hdc in each “eye” (ch-1 sp) of each st across, hdc in last st. Do not turn. Fasten off. (32 hdc).
Row 4 (WS): With WS facing, join B with sc in top of turning chain of previous row, sc in each hdc across, turn.
Row 5 (RS): Ch 3, work Sideways Puff Stitch across until 2 sts rem, sk next st, hdc in last st, turn.
Row 6 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 2, sc in next puff, (ch 2, hdc in next puff) twice, (ch 2, dc in next puff) 4 times, (ch 2, tr in next puff) 3 times, tr in turning ch. Do not turn. Fasten off.
Row 7 (WS): With WS facing, join B again with sc in first sc of previous row; sc in each st and ch across. Fasten off. Do not turn. (32 sc)
Row 8 (WS): With WS facing again, join A with sc in first sc of previous row, sc in each st across, turn.
Rep Rows 2-8, 12 more times.
Finishing
Optional: Wet block cowl and let dry completely.
With RS facing, sc last row and first row together, making sure to work through both loops on both rows. Fasten off.
Border
Top Edging
Note: Carry other color along behind working color and work OVER it.
With RS facing and A, join with a sc on end of first row of A, work (sc, 4 dc CL, 2 sc) along edge of A section while holding B behind and working sts over it (to hide it on WS), pick up B when completing last sc and working last yarn over.
Now with B, work (2 sc, 4 dc CL, 2 sc) along next B section.
Repeat along entire top edge of Cowl, changing colors as stated above, join with sl st into first sc of edging. Fasten off.
Bottom Edging
With RS facing and A, join with sc on end of first row of any A section, work (2 sc, 4 dc CL, 3 sc) across this section changing to B as for top edging.
Now with B, work (3 sc, 4 dc CL, 3 sc) along next B section.
Repeat along entire bottom of Cowl, changing colors as stated above, join with sl st into first sc of edging. Fasten off.
