This was my first real project crocheting. Instructions were perfect. And I love my new market bag!
Like this bag, but these are the most confusing directions that I have ever attempted. Got as far as FIRST HANDLE instructions & do not know if I can even finish! A video would be a big help.
Hi! Happy to ask the designer for help. Let me know if you have a specific question. There are also lots of users who have posted their finished bags on ravelry who may be able to offer advice as well.
This is a beautiful bag! Currently my favorite pattern for a market/produce bag! Thanks!
No one ever replied to the post about the changed instructions for the handles that’s obvious from pictures.
Hello Faith! I’ve reached out to the designer for advice and she or I will reply as soon as possible. Thanks! – Nicola, Editor
Hi Faith, I just confirmed with the designer that the pattern is correct as written and will not result in criss-crossed handles. Check out https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/maui-market-bag/people or #mauimarketbag on Instagram to see other completed bags from this pattern. – Nicola, Editor
The handles are written in a confusing way…I figured it out, though.
You join on the other side. Then the hdc’s are worked in the side with all the 3 chain spaces, and then on the chain 75 handle, so along the circle that creates the handle itself.
I can’t figure out the last row, though- “finishing”. What is the “edge of inside opening”? My bag looks like those photographed without doing this row. Is this something done in the interior?
Hello Brittany! I’ve reached out to the designer for advice and she or I will reply as soon as possible. Thanks! – Nicola, Editor
Feel free to skip that last finishing round. If you open the bag and look down into the opening toward the bottom inside of the bag, that is where the finishing round goes. Just a round of hdc around the edges of the opening of the bag to prevent it from stretching when loaded with heavy items.
I’m very confused about the handle portion. What does rnd 1 of first handle mean??
Hello! I’ve reached out to the designer for advice and she or I will reply as soon as possible. Thanks! – Nicola, Editor
Following the pattern as written gives criss crossed handles. Only one of the pictured bags have these handles SO it was realized this design wasn’t great and changed, but why don’t we get that version? I got to the handles and had to do my own thing. Luckily I knew what I was doing but this is really frustrating and pretty misleading ????
Hi there, sorry that we missed this comment before. I’ve confirmed with the designer that the pattern is correct as written and does not result in criss-crossed handles. Take a look on Ravelry https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/maui-market-bag/people or #mauimarketbag on Instagram to see other finished bags that crocheters have made from this pattern. – Nicola, Editor
So I’m at the end of the 1st rnd of the first handle. It says to sl to the 1st sc but if I do that the handles criss cross. How can I make the handles where they don’t criss cross like the bags in the picture? Only the pink one has these crossed handles and it looks way better not crossed.
Is there a video tutorial for this market bag? I’m stuck on shape the first side .
Hi Gail! There is no video at this time, but let us know if there is a specific question that the designer can address! – Nicola, Editor
I have a question about this bag. I am at round 5 of the side where I change colors. It is not turning into a tube shape. It is still round like a doily. Am I doing something wrong? Is it when I do the handles that it becomes tube shape?
Hello Susan! I’ve reached out to the designer for advice and she or I will reply as soon as possible. Thanks! – Nicola, Editor
Hi Susan! Yes, the Maui Market bag will look flat and round like a doily until about Round 29 or so when it will start to take on a bag/tube shape. Happy crocheting! – Nicola, Editor
This worked up beautifully. I used a different yarn, but even so. I love how it came out.
