Falling Leaves Afghan

Size: Approx 47″ x 62″ [119.5 x 157.5 cm]

Gauge: 12 sc and 13 rows = 4″ [10 cm]; Motif = Approx 5″ [12.5 cm] square

Materials

Yarn: Bernat Worsted (100% acrylic; 876 yards [792 meters]/400 grams): #14008 Aran (MC, 2 balls), #14203 Teal Heather (A, 1 ball), #14436 Cherry Red (B, 1 ball), #14630 Pumpkin (C, 1 ball)
Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook

Pattern Notes

To join new color, work to last 2 loops on hook. Draw new color through last 2 loops then proceed in new color.

Pattern

Motif 1

With Color 1, ch 2.
Row 1 (RS): 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook; turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn. (5 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc to end of row; turn.
Rows 4-8: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn. (15 sc at end of last row)
Row 9: As 3rd row.
Rows 10-12: As Row 4. (21 sc at end of last row)
Row 13: As Row 3; join Color 2; break Color 1.
Row 14: With Color 2, as Row 3.
Rows 15-17: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc, sc2tog; turn. (15 sts at end of last row)
Row 18: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc to end of row; turn.
Rows 19-23: As Row 15. (5 sts at end of last row)
Row 24: As Row 3.
Row 25: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in next sc, sc2tog; turn. (3 sts)
Row 26: Sc3tog; fasten off.

Make 16 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and A as Color 2.
Make 16 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and B as Color 2.
Make 16 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and C as Color 2.

Motif 2

With Color 1, ch 2.
Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook; turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in next sc. 2 sc in last sc; turn. (5 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc to end of row; turn.
Rows 4-8: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc; turn. (15 sc at end of last row)
Row 9: As Row 3.
Rows 10-11: As Row 4 (19 sc at end of last row), join Color 2; do not break Color 1.
Row 12: With Color 2, as 4th row. (21 sc)
Rows 13-14: As Row 3.
Row 15: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc, sc2tog; turn, join Color 1, break Color 2. (19 sts)
Rows 16-17: With Color 1, ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sc, sc2tog; turn. (15 sts at end of last row)
Row 18: As Row 3.
Rows 19-23: As Row 15. (5 sts at end of last row)
Row 24: As Row 3.
Row 25: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in next sc, sc2tog; turn. (3 sts)
Row 26: Sc3tog, fasten off.

Make 4 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and A as Color 2.
Make 4 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and B as Color 2.
Make 4 Motifs having MC as Color 1 and C as Color 2.

Motif 3 (make 12 each with MC, A, B and C)

Work as given for Motif 1, omitting all references to color changes.

Finishing

Sew Motifs tog as shown in diagram.

Edging

Rnd 1: Join MC with sl st to any corner of Blanket; proceed in sc around Blanket, working 15 sc across each Motif and having 3 sc in corners; join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc around, having 3 sc in corners; join with sl st to first sc, fasten off. yarn ball

    You can copy and paste it into a Word Document and then save it. A PDF would be nice too, cuts out some steps.

  • it would be nice if you could save the projects as a pdf, as my printer doesn’t work right now. 🙁
