This luxurious hair scrunchie is created by crocheting around a hair elastic for a plush hair accessory. The pattern is simple and can be made with any chenille or velvet yarn. Great for using up scraps leftover from other projects.

Materials
Elastic hair tie, 2″ in diameter
Yarn: Bernat Velvet (100% polyester; 315 yards [288 meters]/300 grams): 1 ball
Hook: US size H/6 (5 mm)
Notions: tapestry needle
Pattern
Round 1: Make a slipknot onto hook. Insert hook into the center of the circle of elastic, yo and pull through the slipknot. Ch 2, dc 108 around the elastic, sl st to the ch2 that began the round. Fasten off.
Finishing
Bring up the beginning yarn tail to meet the end tail. Double knot the ends and cut the tails.

You may have used the wrong sized hair tie. The pattern calls for a 2″ hair tie. Check it out.

How big is the hair tie you started with ? All my wife had were 1.5″ and I was pushing it to get 70 DC in the thing.

Sorry that we missed this comment! I just checked with the designer and she said that her hair ties were 2 inches in diameter. I hope that helps!
