Rudy the Reindeer

Rudy, a super cute and cuddly amigurumi reindeer, is ready to help decorate your home for the holidays. Prop him around the house for a quick decoration, or crochet a few to give away as gifts.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 7.5”/ 19 cm sitting; 11”/ 28 cm full length

Gauge: Gauge is not essential for this project

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Rico Designs Creative Cotton Aran (100% cotton; 93 yards [85 meters]/50 grams): #56 Nougat (A, 2 balls), #05 Red (B, 1 ball), #60 Natural (C, 1 ball), #90 Black (D, 1 ball)
Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm) hook
Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, Polyester toy stuffing, cream and black felt and sewing thread (optional), small amount of white embroidery thread or crochet cotton (optional)

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in continuous spirals and does not need to be joined in the round.
If using a different weight yarn and opting to use felt be sure to alter size of felt circles to fit your reindeer.
All pieces are started with a Magic Ring (except crochet tummy).
Make either 1 pair of felt eyes, inner ears and tummy circle OR 1 pair of crochet eyes, inner ears and tummy circle
If you are using felt for the eyes there is no need for Black yarn.

Pattern

Felt Eyes, Inner Ears and Tummy

Using template and the corresponding colour felt, cut out the eyes, the inner ears and the tummy. Using a small piece of white crochet cotton or embroidery thread, embroider a small white circle onto the eyes to make a “shine”

Crochet Eyes (Make Two)

With D make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. Using a small piece of white crochet cotton or embroidery thread, embroider a small white circle onto the eyes to make a “shine”.

Crochet Tummy

With C ch 4.
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc, 3 sc in next ch. Continue working along the bottom of the starting ch; Sc, 2 sc in next ch. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in 1st st of rnd, 1 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sts, 1 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sts. (14 sts)
Rnd 3: 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc, *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 2 more times, 1 sc, *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 1 more time. (20 sts)
Rnd 4: 2 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc, *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 2 more times, 1 sc, *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 1 more time. (26 sts)
Rnd 5: 3 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc, *3 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 2 more times, 1 sc, *3 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 1 more time. (32 sts)
Rnd 6: (There are only 3 sts in this rnd) 3 sc.
Sl st to next st to fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Crochet Inner Ears (Make Two)

With C ch 3.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, *2 sc in next st; rep from * 1 more time, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, *sc2tog; rep from * 1 more time, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog.
Fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Ears (Make Two)

With A make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 2 more times. (9 sts)
Rnd 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 2 more times. (12 sts)
Rnd 4: *sc2tog, 1 sc; rep from * 2 more times. (9 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Attach Inner Ears to ears.

Nose

With B make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnds 3-4: Sc in every st. (12 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Muzzle

With A make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnds 5-8: Sc in every st. (24 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff nose and attach between rnds 1 and 4 of muzzle.

Antlers (Make Two)

Points (Make two per antler)

Using B make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnds 2-4: Sc in every st. (6 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Main Beam

Using B make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnds 2-16: Sc in every st. (6 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff points and attach between rnds 4 and 5 and rnds 9 and 10 of main beam.

Head

Using A make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (30 sts)
Rnd 6: *4 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (36 sts)
Rnd 7: *5 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (42 sts)
Rnds 8-14: Sc in every st. (42 sts)
Rnd 15: *sc2tog, 5 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (36 sts)
Rnd 16: *sc2tog, 4 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (30 sts)
Rnd 17: *sc2tog, 3 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnd 18: *sc2tog, 2 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 19: *sc2tog, 1 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (12 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff muzzle and attach between rnds 11 and 19.
Attach eyes between rnds 8 and 10. There should be 2 sts between eyes.
Attach ears between rnds 6 and 9. There should be 13 sts between ears at the back.
Stuff antlers and attach between rnds 3 and 4.
Stuff head.

Legs (Make Two)

Using C make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnds 5-12: Chance to A. Sc in every st. (24 sts)
Begin stuffing. When stuffing, don’t stuff the whole leg, leave the top unstuffed to allow movement.
Rnd 13: *sc2tog, 2 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnds 14-15: Sc in every st. (18 sts)
Rnd 16: *sc2tog, 1 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (12 sts)
Rnds 17-18: Sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 19: *sc2tog; rep from * 5 more times. (6 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Arms (Make Two)

With C make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnds 4-11: Change to A. Sc in every st. (18 sts)
Begin stuffing. When stuffing, don’t stuff the whole leg, leave the top unstuffed to allow movement.
Rnd 12: *sc2tog, 1 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (12 sts)
Rnds 13-15: Sc in every st. (12sts)
Rnd 16:  *sc2tog; rep from * 5 more times. (6 sts)

Rnds 3-6: Sc in every st. (12 sts)

Body

With A make magic ring.
Rnd 1: Sc 6 times into magic ring. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in every st. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: *3 sc, 2 sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times. (30 sts)
Rnds 6-16: Sc in every st. (30 sts)
Rnd 17: *sc2tog, 3 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnd 18: *sc2tog, 2 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (18 sts)
Rnd 19: *sc2tog, 1 sc; rep from * 5 more times. (12 sts)
Sl st to next st and fasten off. Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.
Attach legs to body between rnds 6 and 8. There should 10 sts between legs at the back.
Attach arms to body between rnds 16 and 18. There should be 10 sts between arms at back.
Stuff tail and attach to body between rnds 6 and 8.
Attach tummy between rnds 6 and 17.
Stuff body and attach body to head. yarn ball
