Pattern

Triangle Motif (Make 27)

With MC, ch 5. Join into ring with sl st in first ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, (ch 5, 3 dc in ring) twice, ch 5, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. (9 dc + 3 ch-5 sps)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-5 sp, [dc in each of next 3 dc, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-5 sp] twice, join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. (18 dc + 3 ch-3 sps)
Rnd 3: Change to 2 strands of CC held together, ch 1, sc in same ch as rnd join and in each of next 5 dc, (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in ch-5 sp of Rnd 1, taking care to hold your working yarn in back of work so the stitch covers both the ch-5 of Rnd 1 and the ch-3 of Rnd 2, [sc in each of next 9 dc, (2 tr, ch 3, 2 tr) in next ch-5 sp] twice, sc in each of next 4 dc. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off.

Finishing

Blocking is not necessary – the seams will hold the stocking in shape.
Using 2 strands of CC held together, whip stitch the triangle motifs into stocking shape, following the assembly diagram. Do not stitch together the center ch of the ch-3s at each corner or you will pull it out of shape.

Fill-Ins

Once your stocking is assembled, look at all the areas where the points of the triangles meet.
If you see 3, 4, or 5 adjacent points, no further action is required.

6-Point Fill-In

With MC, work 2 dc in each of the 6 adjacent ch-3 sps. Join rnd with sl st in top of first dc, end off.

8-Point Fill-In

Rnd 1: With MC, work 2 tr in each of the 8 adjacent ch-3 sps. Join rnd with sl st in top of first tr. (16 tr)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc2tog all the way around, beginning in same st as rnd join. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off. (8 sc)

Top Edging

Rnd 1: With MC, starting at center back, sc around stocking opening, working 2 dc in each ch-3 sp you come to at the motif joins. Join rnd with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 15, sl st at base of ch for hanger loop, rev sc around. Join rnd with sl st in first sc, end off.
Weave in all ends. yarn ball
