DC Spike Stitch

Pattern Notes

  • The beginning chain of the round does not count as a stitch.
  • The first stitch of each round is made in the same stitch as the beginning chain.
  • The end of each round is joined by slip stitching in the first stitch of the round, not the beginning chain.
  • When alternating colors, I prefer to carry the yarn on the inside of the work, but at the end of each round I secure the non-working strand: after making the joining slip stitch, pull the working loop out about 6 inches, pass the skein of yarn through the loop and pull to tighten. Your stitches are now secure while you work the next round. Just carry the yarn on the inside of the hat between rounds.

I’m having some trouble with round 6. Is there a diagram or something that can help?

    • It’s a pattern repeat over 11 stitches, working right to left

      † † † †† ††† †† † † †
      _ _ _ _ _ __ ___ __ _ _ _ each line is a stitch, each cross is a dc

This is the best I can do on this platform. Hope it helps.

Hi Christina! You should be able to easily crochet this beanie with approximately 200 yards of any worsted weight soft yarn of any single or ombre color by following the basic instructions without changing and carrying colors of yarn. Just remember to buy a little extra yarn if you’re not starting with yarn in your stash. I hope this helps.

Do you not use PayPal for payments? That is the only way I pay for anything now.
I also, can not really read crochet patterns. And our internet service here in north West victoria is nothing short of abysmal. But I’m going to give this beanie a try.
    Thank you.

This looks similar to a beanie I used to make and donate to our local cancer center. I would take a shopping bag full of the beanies I had made and include one lapghan in the bottom of the bag. I had been told that the patients got cold when going thru chemotherapy.

Hello! You could use a lighter weight yarn and smaller hook to get the size you need. Hope that helps! – Nicola, Editor

  • I really like this pattern, thank you. I plan on studying the pattern and see if I can figure out how to increase the circumference without destroying this beautiful design. I need something like 26+ inches around, however, over the crown of the head I may need to shorten it as most beanies come down over my eyes when finished. Would like it to end just above my eyebrows. Again, thank you for this wonderful design and I will do my best to do it justice.
