The time has finally arrived to complete your Houndstooth Headwrap—I know how hard it has been to wait to add this gorgeous design to your wardrobe! Applying the houndstooth pattern to a headwrap is a great way to give pattern and variety to your accessories, and it has made for a delightful project throughout this month. Every time this pattern is put on, it will bring back memories of this fun process and how perfectly it is tailored to fit you or a special loved one. Button Flap Patterns

Pick back up here from last time, and if you want a printable version, click on the PDF file at the bottom of this post.

Toddler & Small Child (2 to 5 Years) • Head Circumference = 18″ – 19″  •  Headband Length = 17″  •  Headband Width = 3.25″

You will now be working in the ends of the Rows to create the button flaps. Right Side should be facing you.

Button Flap # 1(Ch 1 does not count as a stitch, do not work into it)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc evenly across the ends of the Rows, turn (9)

Row 2 & 3: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across, turn (9)

Row 4: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (8)

Row 5: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (7)

Row 6: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (6)

Row 7: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (5)

Row 8: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (4)

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, ch 2, sc in last stitch (button hole made), turn (2 sc + 2 chs)

Row 10: Ch 1, work 3 sc in the ch-2 space, sl st in last stitch and fasten off (3)

 

Button Flap # 2With the Right Side facing you, turn to the opposite end of the headband and join in the right-hand corner.

Row 1 – 8: Repeat the instructions from Button Flap # 1

Row 9: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, do not turn (3)

Continue working sc stitches evenly around the entire headband, join in the first sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends. Attach the button.

 

Child (5 to 10 Years)  •  Head Circumference = 19″ – 20″  •  Headband Length = 18″  •  Headband Width = 4″

You will now be working in the ends of the Rows to create the button flaps. Right Side should be facing you.

Button Flap # 1(Ch 1 does not count as a stitch, do not work into it)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc evenly across the ends of the Rows, turn (11)

Row 2: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (10)

Row 3: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (9)

Row 4: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (8)

Row 5: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (7)

Row 6: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (6)

Row 7: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (5)

Row 8: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (4)

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first stitch, ch 2, sc in last stitch (button hole made), turn (2 sc + 2 chs)

Row 10: Ch 1, work 3 sc in the ch-2 space, sl st in last stitch and fasten off (3)

 

Button Flap # 2With the Right Side facing you, turn to the opposite end of the headband and join in the right-hand corner.

Row 1 – 8: Repeat the instructions from Button Flap # 1

Row 9: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, do not turn (3)

Continue working sc stitches evenly around the entire headband, join in the first sc.

Teen / Small Adult  •  Head Circumference = 21″ – 22″  •  Headband Length = 19″  •  Headband Width = 4″

You will now be working in the ends of the Rows to create the button flaps. Right Side should be facing you.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc evenly across the ends of the Rows, turn (11)

Row 2: Ch 1, skip the first stitch, sc in the next stitch and in each stitch across, turn (10)
