Sedona Shawl Crochet Pattern

Size: 63½” / [161 cm] wide at upper edge x 91″ / [231 cm] wide at lower edge x 17¾” / [45 cm] depth

Gauge: 10 rows and 16 dc = 4″ [10 cm] in Gauge Swatch pattern, after wet blocking.

While gauge is important, a slight difference will not affect the success of this project.

Materials

Yarn:

Super fine weight yarn Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine (50% Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon, 20% Superfine Alpaca; 433 yards [400 meters]/100 grams): #1294 Turquoise Mix, 3 skeins

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; blocking wires & pins

Abbreviations

ch = chain

dc = double crochet

Ech = elongated chain

rep = repeat

SC/sc = single crochet

sp = space

st(s) = stitch(es)

sk = skip

Special Stitches

2Cdc (crossed double crochet)

skip 1 st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st working around the first dc.

V-st

(dc, ch 1, dc) in the same st

Shell st

(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same st

Pattern Notes

Shawl is worked flat in long rows, from the top edge to the bottom edge.

There is no turning chain at the beginning of each single crochet row.

The Ech at the beginning of a double crochet row does NOT count as a stitch.

Gauge Swatch

Ch 37 sts.

Row 1: Sc in the first ch from hook and in each ch across row, turn – 37 sts.

Rows 2-3: Sc in each st across row, turn.

Row 4: Ech, dc in each st across row, turn.

Rows 5-7: Ech, dc in first 2 sts, *2Cdc; rep from * to last st, dc in last st, turn.

Row 8: Ech, dc in each st across row, turn.

Rows 9-11: Ech, dc in first 2 sts, sk 1 st, V-st in next st, *sk 2 sts, V-st in the next st; rep from * to the last 3 sts, sk 1 st, dc in the last 2 sts, turn.

Rows 12-19: Rep Rows 4-11.

Rows 20-22: Sc in each st across row, turn – 37 sts.

Fasten off.

Wet block swatch and measure gauge over Rows 4-19.

Rows 5-7: Ech, dc in first 2 sts, *2Cdc; rep from * to last st, dc in last st, turn.

Row 8 (Inc): Ech, dc in first 2 sts, (2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 17 sts) 5 times, (2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 25 sts) 3 times, (2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 17 sts) 5 times, 2 dc in the next st, dc in the last 2 sts, turn – 277 sts.
