Alpine Moss Weave Pillow

Materials

Yarn: Cascade Yarns, Pacific Chunky (60% Acrylic 40% Superwash Merino Wool, 120 yards [110 Meters] / 3.5 ounces [100 grams]) Color Number 181 Spirulina Heather (3 skeins).

Hook: US size J/10 6.0 mm

Notions: Tapestry Needle, 12 x 16 Pillow form

Abbreviations

HDC – Half Double Crochet

FPtr – Front Post Treble Crochet

3LO – 3rd loop only

Sk – Skip(ped)

Pattern Notes

Pattern is in worked in the round. Starting chain does not count as a stitch.

It is worked from bottom to top, top to bottom and seamed together at both ends.

Pattern

Chain 84. Be careful not to twist the chain. Join to first ch.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc in first st and each st around. Join to first hdc. (84 st)

Rnd 2 – 6: Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Join to first hdc.

Rnd 7: Ch 1, hdc in the 3LO in each st around.

Rnd 8: Ch 3 (does not count as a st), * sk 2 sts, FPtr in next 2 sts. FPtr in first 2 sk sts. Rep from * around. (84 st)

Rnd 9: Ch 3, sk 4 sts. FPtr around next 2 sts. Cross behind FPtr sts just made, FPtr around third sk st, FPtr around fourth sk st.  (You may need to push the 2 FPtr forward to access the 3rd and 4th st. The first and second sk sts will be worked at the end of the rnd)

*Sk 2 sts. FPtr around next 2 sts. Cross behind post sts just made and FPtr around the first and second sk sts.  Repeat from * until 2 sts remain.  Sk these 2 sts, FPtr around the first and second sk sts of the rnd. Cross behind Fptr just made and work FPtr in last 2 sts of rnd. Join into first FPtr.

Rnd 10-16: Rep Rnds 8 and 9 (last round will be a rep of Rnd 8).

Rnd 17: Hdc in ea st around. Join in first hdc. (84 st)

Rnd 18: Hdc in 3LO in ea st around. Join in first hdc.

Rnd 19-23: Hdc in ea st around. Join in first hdc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Join yarn at corner, seam opening on both ends with sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Tassels (optional) Make 4

Cut 15 10-in strands of yarn. You can use a winding board such as cardboard or card stock. Cut a longer strand of yarn and wrap it around the middle and tie a knot. Fold the yarn in half then tie another long strand (20-in) around the strands 1” from the top. Make a knot and wrap the ends around the tassel several times make another knot. Use a tapestry needle to tuck the ends in the middle of the strands. Trim tassel to desired length. Use the top strands to attach tassels to the pillow corners.
