I am not the designer, but I did work this using previous rows as example. In Row 15, I followed the second half where you skip 2 DCs between shells. The increase is 8 stitches per row, so to increase the length, before row 31, or the edging row, you would repeat rows 23, 24, and 25, and then row 2, row 3, row 2, row 3 and row 2 as many times as wanted until you reach the wingspan/length you wish. Then work row 31 to finish off the shawl.

I’d like to edit my previous comment. After working this pattern, and frogging it, in order to get the number of picots listed at the end off row 31….beginning with row 15, there should be 4 spaces between shells. Same with row 23, after the beginning 2 DC’s in same space, and the skip 2 DC’s and shell in the next stitch, there should be 4 spaces between shells.

I reckon you should publish this corrected version of the pattern yourself Stephanie seeing as how they don’t seem to be very interested in actually sorting out the pattern 2 years after I originally asked my question about it.

          Hi Teresa,

We just published an update for this pattern. Please see row 15 for the corrected version. We are working to improve our pattern correction services, as we are a small team. Thank you for your patience while we make this a better experience for our subscribers.

Grrr. Got to row 15 before I realized that this pattern is flawed. Wish I’d read comments before. Guess you get what you pay for.

When will the update be available? I’ve started this shawl and finally put it down because the directions are so confusing. Can we get a stitch count at the end of each row? That would certainly make it easier.

Has this pattern been updated yet? If not, why is it still on the site if it can’t be done as currently written?

I unfortunately cannot get ahold of this designer. You are welcome to try to reach her on Ravelry or her social media channels. In the meantime, we will try to internally work with our tech editor to review this pattern, but I do not have an ETA. – Nicola, Editor

I have the same question as Joenilla on Dec. 25, 2021. There is an error. Do we skip 2 stitches or 4 before the shell? (The pattern needs to be edited.)

Row 15. (Sk next 4 dc, shell in next dc)….. then the v-st in center (sk next 2 dc, shell in next dc)…. So on one side you skip 4 dc and do a shell … to v-st, but on other side of that v-st you only skip 2 dc and make the shells? How does that work?.. please clarify. Thank you

  • Is it possible to extend this pattern to make the shawl bigger? How do I go about doing this? It doesn’t look like a simple repeat. Hence the question. Thanks, A

A problem for some is the Red Heart shawl is made with worsted weight yarn, instead of fingering or lace weight.

I don’t understand this at end of first row: (8 dc, 1 ch-2 sp) chain 1 leave 2 spaces where, before I turn and chain 3….

Trying to work my way through a massive amount of yarn before I move. I think this will be my go to pattern and will make lovely goodbye gifts for friends and neighbour.
