I have made strip 1 but I can’t seem to get strip 2 started to be attached. How is it done?

As a designer, I love charts/diagrams. However, creating them needs special skills or software to create the chart. I do not have those skills and haven’t been able to find a good software to create a good crochet chart.
Agree with previous comments-a diagram would be a huge help with this pattern.
