Adoring Florals Scarf

Make some beautiful cotton flowers and attach them using a join-as-you-go method to create this wonderful summer scarf. It’s a stunning piece you will absolutely love to wear!

Materials

Fine weight yarnYarnYarn and Colors Must-Have (100% Cotton; 136 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 002 Cream (MC, 4 balls), 090 Olive (CC1, 1 ball), 015 Mustard (CC2, 1 ball), 080 Eucalyptus (CC3, 1 ball), 041 Coral (CC4, 1 ball), 003 Ecru (CC5, 1 ball), 033 Raspberry (CC6, 1 ball), 076 Mint (CC7, 1 ball), 038 Salmon (CC8, 1 ball)

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm); UK size 11 (3.00 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle.

Special Stitches

Beg Treble cluster (beg trcl) – Ch 4, [yo twice, insert hook in next st, (yo, pass through 2 lps on hook) twice] twice, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

Treble cluster (trcl) – [Yo twice, insert hook in next st, (yo, pass through 2 lps on hook) twice] 3 times, yo, pull through all 3 lps on hook.

Pattern Notes

Wrap is composed of 114 motifs with 8 contrast colors used for the flowers. Each flower has a mustard center (CC2), each yellow flower has a coral center (CC4). Cream (MC) is used for round 3. Motifs are joined together while working round 3.

Pattern

Motif 1

With CC2, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in first st. Fasten off. (8 sts)

Change color and join in any st.

Rnd 2: Ch 4, beg trcl in same st, ch 7, *trcl in next st, ch 3, trcl in next st, ch 7; rep from * 3 more times, trcl in last st, ch 3. Join with sl st in beg ch 7. Fasten off. (8 petals)

Change to MC.

Rnd 3: Join in any ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, *ch 3, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next ch-7 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * 3 more times, ending last rep by joining with sl st in beg sc. Fasten off.

You have completed first motif. Use photos as a guide for layout, attaching additional motifs using Join-as-you-go method. Join in rows of 19 x 6 motifs to form a rectangle.

Motif 2

Note: Motif 2 is joined to Motif 1 across one edge. The ch-5 in the corners and the ch-3 on the sides are all joined to the corresponding ch-sps of Motif 1.

Rnds 1-2: Work same as Motif 1.

Rnd 3 (connecting rnd): Work same as Motif 1 Rnd 3 to first corner of motif to join, sc in ch-7 sp, ch 2, sl st in corresponding ch-5 sp of Motif 1, ch 2, sc back in same sp. You will now join the sides of the motifs: Ch 1, (sl st into corresponding ch-3 sp of Motif 1, ch 1, sc in next sp, ch 1) twice, ch 2, sl st in corresponding ch-5 sp of Motif 1, ch 2, sc back in same sp (2nd corner completed). Cont Rnd 3 same as Motif 1.

Note: Cont to join motifs in the same way, replacing center ch of ch-3 and ch-7 with a sl st to adjoining motif. Where 4 motifs meet for joining, sl st to the motif diagonal to the one you are attaching.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Tassel (make 4)

You can use any color of your choice or combine colors.

Use a book approx. 6-8″ in width. Cut a 12″ length of yarn and lay across top of book; this will be used to tie top of tassel. Wrap yarn around book about 16-20 times.

Using the 12″ tie, knot top of tassel tightly. Cut tassel at opposite end. Cut another length of yarn and wrap around tassel 1″ from top 5 times and knot ends together. Allow ends to become part of tassel.

Trim if needed and attach to 4 corners by sewing securely.

Light blocking, pinning out on blocking board and spray lightly with water.

Leave to dry.
