With smaller hook and MC, join yarn at left front neck edge.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc across 9 unworked sts, sc2tog last st and side of neck edge – 10 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc back lp only in each st.
Row 3: Ch 2, sc back lp only in first 9 sts, sc2tog last st and side of neck edge.
Rep Rows 2-3 around right front edge, back of neck, and left front edge, ending at left front neck edge. Fasten off.
Stitch collar in place at bottom front neck edge.
Join CC at left edge of collar. Sc evenly around collar. Fasten off.
Sew sleeves and side seams.
Weave in ends.
On the instructions for the back, where it says to rep Row 2 until piece means 14″ from the beginning; please clarify, did you mean the beginning of the cl rows, or the ribbing?
As per my conversion chart for Finished Chest Sizes, 28″ should be for a 10 year old. The width of the ribbing is fine, but 28CL across ribbing just doesn’t add up. Wanted to do 2 sweaters for valentine, but it will be a real crush now. Thank you in advanced for verifying this pattern.
Love the pattern. Appreciate very much the free pattern, since I am a senior and retired many years ago because of a disability. Love this pattern as it could be worn all winter since there is no heart in the pattern. Than you so much again. Love the texture of the pattern. Jill

The directions for the shawl collar appear to be incomplete. It is clearly made of ribbing that is approximately as wide as the ribbing at the bottom of the sweater, but the pattern shows only 3 rows of sc around the collar.
Please let me know when you post a corrected version – I was planning this as a Christmas gift, but that’s obviously not going to happen without the rest of the pattern.
