Lacy Rose Shawl

The Lacy Rose Shawl is a raspberry-hued, lace, triangular shawl that uses basic crochet stitches in its construction. This light and airy shawl is sure to add extra elegance to any outfit and is perfect for intermediate crocheters.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 83“wide at the top, 32” height at center

Gauge: 17 sts and 7 rows = 4” in lace pattern, relaxed after wet blocking

Materials

Yarn: Baah! Yarns La Jolla (100% merino; 400 yards [366 meters]/100 grams): Pink Tourmaline (2 skeins)
Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm) hook
Notions: Blocking material (blocking mat, rust-proof T-pins, blocking wires, etc.), tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

Take time to check the gauge.
Read the pattern instructions completely before you cast on. Go through charts as well as row by row instructions.
Shawl is worked sideways.
Chain 3 at the end of each row counts as single dc throughout.
Work all stitches in back loop only.

Construction Details

The shawl begins at the top left corner of the triangle. It is worked sideways from one end to another. Few stitches are cast on. Stitch count is increased every alternate row till a desired height of the shawl is achieved. The stitch count is decreased thereafter every alternate row till only cast on number of stitches remain. Lace edge on two sides is worked next. Blocking is a must for this shawl to bring out the lace pattern.

Work rows 76-81 a total of 10 times.
Continue to work rows 76-81, skipping 2 ch and 2 dc at the end of even rows till 10 stitches remain. Please refer to charts for clarity. For the last row, ch 5 instead of ch 3 before turning. Do not cut the yarn.
The shawl body is ready now. As you can see, one side of this triangle is a straight line and other two sides look like ladders with “steps”. The lace edge is worked on these “steps”.
Next, work lace edge on two sides of the shawl as given below:

Row 1: Skip 2 dc, 2 ch and 1 dc, slip stitch into next dc. *Ch 5, skip 2 ch, 1 dc and slip stitch into next dc. Ch 5, skip 2 dc and slip stitch into single chain.* Repeat from * to * till you cover both sides of the shawl and reach the first cast on chain.
Row 2: *Ch 3, turn, slip stitch into 3rd chain of previous row, picot of 4 chains, ch 3, slip stitch into slip stitch.* Repeat from * to * till you reach the other end of shawl. Cut the yarn.

Finishing

Wet block the shawl. While blocking the shawl on blocking mats, use one rust-proof T-pin each for the first and last picot. For rest of the picots, pin two of them together. Let the shawl dry completely before removing all the pins and wires.
Weave in ends.
