Indigo Sunset Shawl

The beautiful color changes in the proposed self-shading yarn do most of the work in this angular lace stole. Hexagonal motifs are crocheted and sewn together at the end so you can place the colors just where you want them to create a shawl all your own.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Gauge: 1 Motif = 6 1/4” [16 cm] wide after wet blocking

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm) hook

Motifs are crocheted separately and seamed. The border is added after the motifs are sewn.

Pinwheel Motif

Ch 6, join with sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 6 (counts as dc + ch 3), (dc in ring, ch 3) 5 times, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-6. (6 dc, 6 ch-3 sp)
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc in same dc, ch 3, (3 dc in next dc, ch 3) 5 times, join with sl st to beg dc. (18 dc, 6 ch-3 sp)
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 3 dc in same dc, dc2tog, ch 3, (4 dc in next dc, dc2tog, ch 3) 5 times, join with sl st to beg dc. (30 dc, 6 ch-3 sp)

Make 30 Pinwheel Motifs.

Finishing

Steam-block each Motif. Arrange according to diagram. First, join short (red) seams. To join a seam, hold motifs with RS together. Place slip knot on hook. Insert hook into center of ch-3 on both pieces and sl st together. Sl st together next ch, next 11 dc, and next 2 ch. Fasten off. Second, join long (blue) seams.
Steam-block seams.
