Pattern
Ch 44, slip stitch to join being careful not to twist the chain.
Rnd 1: *Ch 3, skip the next st, sc in the next st, repeat from * around, ending with ch1 and slst to join in the 2nd ch of the first ch-3.
Rnd 2: Turn, sc in the first ch 1 sp, *ch 1, sc in the next ch 1 sp, repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, and slst to join in the first sc of the row.
Rnds 3-12: Repeat step 3.
Begin Top of the Hat
Rnd 1: Ch 2 and turn, dc in each st around, slst to join. (44 stitches – Work into each sc, and into each ch1 space)
Rnd 2: *Ch 2 and turn, dc in every 2nd st around, slst to join. (22 stitches)
Rnd 3: Repeat from *.
Rnd 4: Ch 1 and turn, sc in every 2nd stitch around, slst to join and fasten off with a 12 inch long yarn end. Thread into a needle, weave through the last row of stitches, and pull to close top of hat. Secure with a few stitches and fasten off. Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
