These textured beanies make great gifts for both family members and friends.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Finished hat circumference: 12 (16, 21)” to fit head size 14 (18, 23)”

Gauge: Through Rnd 5 = 3.75” [9.5 cm] in pattern unblocked

Materials

Yarn: Schachenmayr Original Boston (70% acrylic, 30% wool; 60 yards [55 meters]/50 grams): #00065 Teal, 1 (2, 2) balls
Hook: US size L/11 (8.0 mm) hook
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker or waste yarn

Special Stitches

Front post single crochet (FPsc): Insert hook from front around post of next tr from previous rnd, yo and draw up a loop around post, yo and draw through 2 loops. Skip st behind FPsc.
(decrease): *Insert hook into next st, yo and draw up a loop.* Repeat from * to * once. Yo and draw through all 3 loops.

Pattern Notes

All sc, tr, and sc2tog throughout are worked in back loop only.
Hat is crocheted in spirals from the crown to the brim with RS facing.
Do not join at the end of each round.
Move stitch marker up each round to mark last st of round.

Shaping Crown

Begin with magic ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, close loop tightly, pm. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: (Sc, tr) in ea st around. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: (2 sc in next st, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd) around. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *(Sc, tr) in next st, sc in next st, tr in next st* around. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in next st, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd* around. (30 sts)

Newborn/12” Size Only
Next Rnd: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts* around. (36 sts) Skip to instructions for working towards brim.

Rnd 6: *(Sc, tr) in next st, (sc in next st, tr in next st) twice* around. (36 sts)
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, (FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in next st) twice, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd* around. (42 sts)

Toddler/16” Size Only
Next Rnd: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 6 sts* around. (48 sts) Skip to instructions for working towards brim.

Rnd 8: *(Sc, tr) in next st, (sc in next st, tr in next st) 3 times* around. (48 sts)
Rnd 9: *2 sc in next st, (FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in next st) 3 times, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd* around. (54 sts)
Rnd 10: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 8 sts* around. (60 sts)
Working towards brim:
Rnd 11: *Tr in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts* around. (36, 48, 60 sts)
Rnd 12: *FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in each of next 2 sts* around.
Rnd 13: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 14: Sc in next st, *tr in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts* around to last 2 sts, tr in next st, sc in next st.
Rnd 15: Sc in next st, *FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in each of next 2 sts* around to last 2 sts, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd, sc in next st.
Rnd 16: Repeat Rnd 13.
Rnd 17: *Sc in each of next 2 sts, tr in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts* around.
Rnd 18: *Sc in each of next 2 sts, FPsc around next tr from previous rnd* around.
Rnd 19: Repeat Rnd 13.
Repeat Rnds 11-19 until hat length measures approximately 4”/10 cm (6.5”/16.5 cm, 7”/17.75 cm), ending after Rnd 12, 15, or 18.
Next Rnd: *Sc in each of next 4 (6, 8) sts, sc2tog* around. (30, 42, 54 sts)
Final Rnd: Sc in ea st around, sl st to next st, fasten off.

Finishing

With tapestry needle, weave in ends.yarn ball
